Can a professional man wear a tie with a short sleeve shirt? How can I know I'm getting the proper answer?

Also, is it appropriate for a gentleman to wear short sleves with a suit coat?

No the long sleeves not only are the right way to go but they even make the sleeves of the jacket lay better. Most upper end men’s clothing stores don’t even carry short sleeve shirts

no. that style is left to geeks and the fashioned challenged. if you want more affirmation check out men’s fashion sites like GQ. ties are NEVER meant to be worn with short sleeves.

Short sleeve shirts look really tacky when you wear ties with them. My dad wears lots of short-sleeve button-up shirts, but NEVER a tie. Eww.
If you want to wear a tie, there’s nothing wrong with maybe rolling up the sleeves a couple times, so the ends come a few inches above your wrists (or maybe halfway up your forearm, approximately).
For suit coats in the professional realm, you always want to wear long sleeves – don’t even roll them up a little.

eww, short sleeve button up?? leave that for the 80 year olds. if youre going to wear a suit and tie, stick with long sleeve wovens.
